September intensive — index futures desk
A four-person cohort arrived with different brokers but the same habit: buying the first print above the prior day’s high. Day two forced each trader to rebuild the prior session profile by hand. Two of the four discovered their “breakouts” started inside unfinished auction inside the value area — not outside it. By day three their checklists required acceptance beyond the upper value extreme plus rising volume on the first pullback. One participant still disliked the pace of the composite-profile block; we scheduled a follow-up chart review rather than stretch the classroom past dusk.
Clinic rewrite — opening-range breakouts
An evening Breakout Validation Clinic focused on opening-range trades in liquid equities. Participants marked ten historical opens before the shared replay. The useful tension came when volume on the break was thin yet price held for forty minutes — half the room called it valid, half called it a trap. The written rule that emerged: time acceptance without volume is provisional size only, full size waits for a second volume push or a return-and-hold into the breakout shelf. Several attendees said the disagreement itself was more instructive than a tidy answer.
